The social factor of I'm a Fan!
We believe that together we are stronger. Therefore, acting in solidarity is as important to us as possible. For every product purchased, we donate €1 to social and charitable organizations , and we strive to operate as sustainably as possible while keeping our offerings as affordable as possible.
The organizations we continually support include:
+ Aktion Baum , a non-profit organization that plants a tree for every €5. They support research into the forest of the future, plant trees in Germany that are scientifically sound from a forestry perspective, and engage in education and awareness-raising.
+ Queer Amnesty International , which campaigns for human rights and equal rights for all, especially queer* people worldwide. In 2024, homosexuality will still be prosecuted in 66 countries worldwide, and in 12 countries, queer* people are even threatened with the death penalty ( source ).
as well as local and regional initiatives and projects that are committed to social and charitable purposes or support the queer* community, e.g. Tuntenhaus Bleibt, TooMuch Düsseldorf, etc.

Sustainability is an important factor in all areas as part of the social factor
Sustainability is an important part of our work, both personally motivated and due to global necessity. The connection between social and environmental aspects fills entire books. Therefore, in addition to donating to the Tree for Tree Planting campaign, we work to minimize our environmental impact wherever possible .
What does this mean specifically? In brief:
+ Bamboo instead of plastic or precious wood
+ reusable shoulder bag instead of disposable plastic as packaging
+ Manufactured according to the European Code of Conduct
+ Transport mainly by train instead of truck or plane
+ Warehouse with environmental certification
+ Recycling cardboard boxes for shipping with as little and degradable filling material as possible
+ Green electricity, shortest possible distances and largely sustainable materials in the office
And in a little more detail:
The fans themselves were deliberately made from fast-growing bamboo rather than plastic or precious woods, making the product more biodegradable should it need to be disposed of. With the partially handcrafted construction and the sturdy polyester fiber fabric mix on both sides, we tried to create the most durable and high-quality product possible in this price range, so that it will bring you joy for as long as possible and remain affordable. Hence the extra hem border to prevent fraying.
Production takes place in one of the hand fan's countries of origin, namely by a Chinese fan manufacturer who will be a long-term partner, has committed to a "Code of Conduct" according to European standards, and will be audited by 2025 at the latest. We ensure fair wages and additional quality factors that we determine together with the manufacturer.
I'm a Fan! avoids plastic packaging and largely eliminates cardboard boxes for the individual compartments. Instead, it comes with a reusable shoulder bag, also to prevent it from constantly being lost. Even during shipping, only as much packaging material is used as absolutely necessary and, whenever possible, made from recycled or recyclable materials. Most of the goods are transported from the manufacturer to the warehouse by train to keep CO2 emissions low compared to other means of transport such as ships or airplanes.
Our German fulfillment and logistics partner was also selected for its ISO 14001 certification (for environmentally friendly processes), ECTA Responsible Care (sustainability through responsible action), various energy audits, and self-imposed sustainability standards. For hosting, we use a provider that operates energy-efficiently, in addition to German servers.
And of course, this also extends to our internal company processes, where we try to work as sustainably as possible, from green electricity to office supplies and transport.
